to share experiences and exchange advice. Sundowners are your classic G&Ts, ice cold Kingfisher beer, lately also wine from the Nasik region. During the day you stroll the village where children greet you or wander the fields, meet goat herders or just enjoy solitude with nature sitting by the lake. Praduman, the owner, takes you around to nearby towns or to early morning bird-watching sessions. Walk over to the cooperative and watch women doing traditional crafts.
Sitting reading on the porch or on the rooftop at dinner time, looking at the stars, listening to prayer songs in nearby temples as well as watching people wander the streets with their water bowls on their way to the well or guiding home cows is pure bliss.
My advice: Enjoy and linger ...
Enjoyed a lovely stay at the wonderful renovated palace owned and run by Praduman and his charming family. We stayed in the former horse stables which have been renovated into elegant suites with large modern bathrooms. The walls are beautiful colored brick, the floors all ceramic tiles. Beds are dressed in soft and cozy bed linens with block print designs, a local art style. Peacocks roam the grounds, bouganvillea trees bloom radiantly and pomegranite trees flourish. Main dining was in the courtyard where tasty food was served buffet style. Outside the hotel/palace is the women's co-op where delicate and beautiful hand crafted clothes and jewelry are sold by the artisans--all dressed in shining saris and so ready to please. We enjoyed a jeep safari to a nearby village and watched a talented pot maker easily hand turn a pot on a manual wheel. We tried to make a pot and ended up crushing a nice piece of clay to bits. Local village very welcoming and friendly. Incredible India!

I stayed at Chandelao Garh in August 2009 and it was amazing. I had an absolutley wonderful time. The service and food are incredible. I went on the Jeep Safari which is something I will never forget as long as I live. I would recommend Chandelao Garh to everyone who would like to experience the beuatiful countryside of India.
We had a very happy, luxuriously comfortable and memorable stay at Chandelao Garh en route to Jaisalmer and would like to thank Praduman and Sangeeta for welcoming us to their majestic home with such sincere and friendly hospitality. The women's project at Sunder Rang is great – we were really impressed by the quality of work, quite wonderful. There were so many lovely moments in our stay, including meeting the local women gathering water at the stepwell in the early morning sunlight, walking around Chandelao Village soaking up the local colour, marvelling at the array of produce at the local fruit and vegetable market. Everywhere we were met with typical Rajasthani friendliness and smiles.
We stayed in Chandelao in December 2009. Was our first night in Rajastan and we enjoyed the place, the people and the food. We spend hours walking in the village taking photos and talking to the people - so beautiful and peaceful! And like a real African we enjoyed the chat on the roof around the fire!
Having visited Chandelao a couple of years ago, it remains a vivid & heart felt memory. Being able to witness on the website that past proposals have now become reality, the integrity I evidenced in Chandelao at the time is even more substantiated now. The nobility & graciousness of the owner & his family, the spirit of joyful involvement of the workers with their attentive service & delicious food, the rich traditions in terms of architecture & customs, the shining talents of the local artisans, & the uninhibited freshness & charm of the villagers living sustainably amidst a fascinating landscape, altogether created a gift of astonishing beauty, generosity & value. A strong sense of gratitude remains. Aim to share in this Chandelao experience if you are interested in the possibility of genuine cultural exchange, devoid of exploitation, & have your world re-enchanted.
I stayed at Chandelao in March 2009 while on a tour of Rajasthan. Of all the places I visited, this was my favourite. The accommodation was great, the village was a peaceful and happy place and I enjoyed the women's project. It was great to see women in India showcasing their exquisite talents and skill. This will be an experience I remember for a long time, thank you for opening your home and village to us. I recommend anyone to visit Chandelao if given the chance.
